Natural language processing
Natural Language Processing, or NLP, is a branch of artificial intelligence that enables computers to understand and process human language. It involves using text analytics and natural language understanding algorithms to recognize patterns in written or spoken language and extract actionable insights from them. NLP can be used for tasks such as sentiment analysis, document classification, and semantic search. It can also be used for question answering, machine translation, speech recognition and more. For example, Google's search engine uses NLP algorithms to understand the meaning behind a user's query to find relevant results. Virtual assistants like Siri use NLP to recognize when someone is asking a question and then interpret it so they can provide an appropriate response. Speech recognition systems also rely on NLP to map sounds into written words.
